Jumbo Refresh – Supermarket Re-Branding

Logo Proposal

Following an in-depth analysis, we concluded that Jumbo’s brand positioning and future objectives necessitate the preservation of its core identity, embodied by its bold red letters. Armed with this insight, we proposed two options for Jumbo’s future logo, each thoughtfully designed to uphold the essence of the brand while steering it towards its envisioned future.

The client opted to retain the current logo. In response, we refined its construction by visually balancing each letter, thereby ensuring a well-structured and aesthetically pleasing logotype.

Inspired by the initial letter of our brand, ‘J’, we crafted a design centered around a rounded diagonal corner. This design choice is more than just aesthetic; it carries substantial strategic implications. It mirrors our brand’s dynamism and forward-thinking approach, embodying our commitment to innovation and progress. The blend of sharp corners with their curved counterparts creates a unique visual harmony that is both captivating and visually pleasing. The angular edge of the corner signifies boldness and precision, while the gentle curve represents our modern and vibrant spirit. Together, they form a balanced composition that perfectly encapsulates our brand’s character – dynamic, bold, relatable, and daring.

We’ve distilled Jumbo’s visual language into four simple shapes, forming the foundation of a minimalist design system. This streamlined approach paves the way for cleaner, more modern visual communication, aligning with the brand’s ethos while ensuring its message is conveyed effectively and elegantly.

We’re implementing a new grid system for our printed materials. This structure enhances organization and visual appeal, creating a more engaging experience for our customers and further elevating the brand’s aesthetic.

Modular Grid

This grid system is also modular, allowing for flexible space allocation based on specific requirements. This feature ensures that not all elements need to be of the same size, providing the flexibility to highlight certain aspects as needed.

By applying the grid system to our newspaper advertisements, we can clearly observe the transformation in the ‘before’ and ‘after’ comparisons. This change showcases the effectiveness of the new design approach.

Merca – Supermarket Branding

Challenge

Creating Merca Jumbo meant defining a new retail identity under the shadow of a well-known brand. The goal was to simplify and modernize without losing the strength and authority of Jumbo.
We had to strike a balance between being affordable but not cheap, bold but not aggressive, and fresh but still trusted — all while building something instantly recognizable on crowded shelves.

Create a brand that is visually striking, unique & really represents the truly exceptional way of thinking this studio really implements.

Name Concept

The goal for this studio was to show that they did things different from everyone else, that they always thought outside the box. What better way to represent this is by showing that they got outside the ultimate box, the three-dimensional space we live in right now? By exploring the realm of a 4rth dimension. The name comes from exploring different scientific and mathematical concepts to better explain the studio’s capacity to truly think outside our reality, presenting fresh concepts and ideas that have not been thought of before.

The fourth spacial dimension, the ultimate boundary. A hypothetical concept that only exists in the imagination of extraordinary scientists and thinkers, and can only be theorized though mathematical equations. Throughout decades, people have been mesmerized with designing thought experiments that could model one extra dimension beyond the third dimension we live in, trying to get a grasp over such a complex concept.

2 – Emoto

Premium Perfume

A brand proposal for a fictitious high-end perfume inspired by Masaru Emoto’s experiments with water and the law of attraction. Masaru’s findings demonstrated that water is shaped by environment, thoughts, and emotions.

Masaru Emoto

During the 1990s, Dr. Masaru Emoto conducted a series of experiments to observe the physical effect of words, sentences, music, and environment on the crystal structure of water. After observations, Dr. Emoto separated water into one hundred petri dishes and wrote different words, both positive and negative, and stuck them on containers filled with water.

The molecules of water stamped with positive words were much more symmetrical, aesthetically pleasing, and pleasing than those marked with dark, negative phrases. It is true that positive and negative thinking has a great impact on the environment.

If the words and thoughts that come out of us have this effect on water crystals, imagine what it could do to ourselves when we are 60% water.

This perfume is built on the premise that words have the ability to transform lives. Words are powerful, and as we consistently see hopeful and uplifting words, their influence can bring prosperity, abundance, happiness, and freedom. You choose what you want to attract. Not only is this backed up by Dr. Masaru Emoto’s experiment, but their presence serves as a constant reminder of what is most important in life. Choose your words wisely and be the positive change you want to see in your life.

Texture Displacement

A combination of carefully curated images and mixing them to create textures was used to create a truly unique design that embodies the energy and excitement of the event. The semicircle featured in the design serves as a powerful representation of sound, immediately communicating the purpose of the festival – to celebrate music. 3d displacement effects were used on the textures to add movement and depth to the design, setting it apart from other events.

To distinguish each day and create a unique experience for attendees, we incorporated three textures in the design to represent the three days of music. This approach helped tie all the elements of the festival together under one cohesive design, making it a visually stunning and memorable event.
